Auto Enrolment

The law on workplace pensions has changed. Every employer now has a duty to join eligible jobholders into a qualifying workplace pension scheme and to start making contributions. This is known as Automatic Enrolment.

As part of Automatic Enrolment, an important employer responsibility is to source and select an appropriate, qualifying, workplace pension to match the profile of the business and workforce. Our team advises on both of these areas.

What is Automatic Enrolment?

The law on workplace pensions has changed. Every employer now has a duty to join eligible jobholders into a qualifying workplace pension scheme and to start making contributions. This is known as Automatic Enrolment.

From an eligible jobholders’ point of view, the process of joining the pension scheme is entirely automatic, with the focus and responsibility resting solely with the employer.

The employer must ensure they fully satisfy each step of the Automatic Enrolment process in a timely and compliant manner, or risk remedial action and/or penalties from the Pensions Regulator. More details on Automatic Enrolment can be found here.
